2012 South Carolina Republican Primary
All eyes now turn to the state of South Carolina as Republican
Presidential hopefuls have invaded the state. Candidates are making
sweeps around all the key cities holding luncheons, breakfast
meetings, forums at schools and Universities and other events as they
seek to win the State Republican Primary. South Carolina is historically a
very conservative state, however, this time the list of candidates and the
economic situation the state is in represent an interesting mixture for who
the state voters may select.
Mitt Romney is charging into the state fresh off the win in New hampshire,
however, his win was not decisive enough to knock out the competition. Ron
Paul finished a suprising second in the N.H primary and his ideals and logic
may just be more well suited to todays South Carolinian. South Carolina is a
right to work state and big business enjoys many tax breaks. These tax
breaks and soft business taxes would make one think that it would trickle
down to the average worker. it has not. South Carolina is well over 10% in
unemployment and the workers who do have jobs suffer some of the lowest
wages in America. This set up does not bode well for a rich fast talking
businessman like Mitt Romney. So let us then take a look at Newt Gingrich
whose background from Georgia may help him with some southerners vote.
Gingrich fits fairly well into the current South Carolina climate and his souther
background is a plus. Newt should do fairly well and he just may well do
better than Romney in the state.
on the ballot in South Carolina will be nine different candidates as listed below:
Mitt Romney
Jon Huntsman
Ron Paul
Rick Perry
Newt Gingrich
Rick Santorum
Michele Bachmann
Herman Cain
Gary Johnson
South Carolina is an open primary which means any registered voter can vote in the
primary whether they are Republican or Democrat.
Which brings us to two other candidates who are making inroads into
South Carolina. Rick Santorum may stand an outside shot at garnering a
fair share of the vote, however his closed strict political platform does not
mix well with fredom loving Southerners. So who does that leave? Ron
Paul. Paul has several factors going for him in South Carolina. His base
has been here for months working the streets and colleges. His personal
liberty and freedom speeches play right into residents who are strongly anti
big government. Paul is also a born Southerner himself. His tirades against
big business,The Federal Reserve and his screams about bank bailouts
are music to many South Carolina residents. Many residents have been
steamrolled by large business, greedy banks and a less than stellar
performance by their Governor Nikki Haley. Ron Paul may just swoop into
South Carolina and stun the nation with a resounding win

With one day left in the South Carolina Republican primary, the race is frankly up for grabs. Thursday we had the departure of Rick Perry so his supporters will have to choose one of the four candidates left. CNN aired their invitation only debate Thursday night and it started with a bang. Newt Gingrich was questioned about the interview ABC news conducted with his former wife. In the interview Newts former wife has stated he asked to have an open marriage with her and Callista. At the opening of the deabte, newt Chastised CNN and turned the question into a sympathy play for himself. The partisan crowd approved. With Saturday looming closer though, the debate seemed to rattle Romney, raise Gingrich and Dr.Paul as also made the most common sense. Santorum tried to fire away but he just doesn't have it in him to attack.
So Saturday comes and we have 4 left standing, although herman Cain is on the ballot. Watch for a suprise showing from Ron Paul. His supporters are growing greatly in the state and may shock the national media.
