Dateline Saturday October 22nd 2011
The Occupy Charleston movement has been gaining speed throughout the week and garnering more and more attention as
the protesters begin to spread there message about corporate greed. Saturday brought some intelligent lectures and teach
ins to the crowd. Many people passed by,stopped, listened and engaged in polite debate regarding the movement, the
Federal Reserve and many other topics.
Many in the mainstream media have pegged the Occupy movement as radicals, leftists, hippies and many other stereotypes. I
can plainly argue against this as what i saw today were enlightened individuals, college graduates, older employed family
men and women and even some well to do types that aren't in the 1%. The movement is about change, and corporate greed
and for Charleston change is hard thing to do. Charlestonians are so used to their everyday simple life's they do not
embrace change easily. Even during the civil war, they basically viewed the war as a hindrance to their daily lives. However,
Change is something they will have to deal with soon enough. Charlestonians and Americans will only take so much, before
their rebellious spirit rises up. That point may be coming sooner than most think. Food prices are continually rising as
Corporations soaked the American people for more profits. Currently the Federal Reserve is contemplating another round of
Quantitative easing which would weaken the American dollar more. When the American dollar gets weaker, real prices on
commodities rise. Another round of easing by the fed will likely result in $5 a loaf bread, $8 pack of bacon and $20 for a
regular steak. As usual it is when this occurs as when most Americans will join the 99%. And quite frankly it will have already
been too late at that point.
The Charleston occupy Movement is just begining, it has made great strides in it's first full blown event and has gathered
many followers. As thinks deteriate In America, the movement will only grow and grow. As the year 2012 approaches, the
Charleston occupy movement may hold some key election power for the coming elections.
below is some pictures and video of the Charleston Occupy Movement.

I was quite impressed with
not only the turnout but the
overall control and rules
driven gathering that was
there. Occupy Charleston
planned to travel down to
the Democratic party
gathering at the Charleston
maritime Center to make
their voices heard.
