Occupy Charleston
Charleston South Carolina is being occupied,once again. No not by the Northern union Army,
this time by hundreds and maybe thousands of local and maybe even some non local of the
99%. There is now an active and growing groundswell in the Charleston area that is
organizing in conjunction with the OWS movement in New York. OWS stands for Occupy
Wall Street and it has become a worldwide movement to right the injustice of the Wall Street
greed monsters. The Occupy Wall Street movement are non violent protests centered
around the corrupted capitalism model that now exists in America. With unemployment
hovering around 9% for months, people are now seeing that their slice of the American
dream is getting smaller and smaller by the day. meanwhile corporate banksters and
executives rake in large bonuses and payouts using our taxpayers money.
The Charleston Movement of Occupy Wall Street, occupy Charleston, will begin wednesday
October 19th at noon. the location is Brittlebank park on the Ashley River in Downtown
Charleston South Carolina. There will be a tent city campout, cooking,music,teach ins,guest
speakers and a general assembly meeting on the final day Sunday, October 23rd.
While not everyone is fully behind the Occupy movements, you can hardly raise an argument
against them. America was founded on the right and freedom to protest when something has
gone wrong, and clearly in this country something has. There are more to blame than just the
big banks and eventually the Occupy movements plan to right these wrongs. The bank
bailouts were a huge mistake. the federal reserve had hoped the banks would use this
money to lend to people and small business owners, instead the bank execs just saved it all
or spent it on themselves. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke was mystified and
printed more money, which raised all of our common everyday prices to skyrocket area.
Check your local grocery store, there is no way a common working family can make it today
with prices this high. Something has to change.
The Occupy movements are partyless, they conform neither to the Republican or
Democratic parties. They are a leaderless movement than soon will garner the worlds
attention,if they haven't already. The American citizens have been robbed of a decent
lifestyle, while an elite group pillages their paychecks and continues to raise prices on
everything that is needed. Even Ben Bernanke somewhat agrees,as recently he said,"People
are quite unhappy with the state of the economy and what’s happening. They blame, with
some justification, the problems in the financial sector for getting us into this mess, and they’
re dissatisfied with the policy response here in Washington. And at some level, I can’t blame
them. Certainly, 9 percent unemployment and very slow growth is not a good situation." The
citizens of America have been robbed and have gotten nothing in return but a larger tax bill.
